Flip Flop Study Highlights NothinZ “Flip Flop or Not” Benefits
New research at Auburn University shows that most flip flops are not held firmly to the foot requiring the toes to “scrunch” in order to keep the flip flop on while the heel is lifting. This alters the gait and stretches the plantar fascia (the muscle running from toe to heel). The result can be heel spurs and painful inflammation. Turning the foot to keep the flip flop on the foot also leads to long term ankle and hip problems.
The research featured on a Good Morning America show suggests flip flops with a heel strap and pronounced arch and substantial heel strike capability are the healthiest choice.
